Dreams

In the dark realm of dreams
Lurk the images of the soul;
Reflections of the past, present and future-
Unfolding like a scroll;

The daily thoughts of life
And memories from the mind,
Are the fabric of the dream
And delicately intertwined;

A dream is like a mirror
Which exposes the inner man;
Whereas he unwittingly reveals his error
Unto his Maker’s judgmental hand.

Nightingale

O’ Nightingale, how sad thy song
That thou pourest from thy heart!
What sort of thing so direfully wrong
Has taken thee apart?

Thy sorrowed song makes evening weep!
Thy haunted tune turns moon to gray!
What kind of pain profoundly deep,
Has wrought your shadow with dismay?

Alas! To thee- O’ mourning ghost!
A bird thy hardly are!
That from beyond the uppermost-
Thou hast fallen as a star!

The Cottonwood Tree

Through my bedroom window-
A cool refreshing breeze,
Would come along with moon glow-
Through the Cottonwood leaves;

The gentle flutters of her leaf,
Lulled my heart to sleep…
And in a moments’ brief-
My soul was hers to keep!

Then when daylight came,
An Oriole would claim the tree;
And me, just the same
Of the shade over me!

Now, I miss that Cottonwood tree
Which was part of my childhood;
Often, I recall her memory
In those quiet evenings of that neighborhood.
